Gergely Lukács began his musical studies at the age of 6 in Zalaszentgrót
under the hands of Attila Johann. Later he studied at Béla Bartók Music
Conservatory, Budapest where he was tutored by Gábor Adamik.
He was
mentored by László Szabó and Roland Szentpáli and earned his MA degree
as a tuba player at Franz Liszt Music Academy. He has been performing solo
several times with symphonic orchestras all around the world.
He won first
prize at the National Brass Competition in 2012, and a year later he won the
International Brass Contest in Brno, Czech Republic. He was winner of the
tuba contest of the International Tuba and Euphonium Association in
Bloomington, United States.
He also won the first Bucharest Brass
Competition and he won the International Brass Competition of New Zealand
Brass Festival in 2021. In 2015 he was granted
scholarship by the Bank of China.
His other achievements include first prize at tuba
competitions in Varazdin; Croatia, Brno; Czech Republic; he was also a prize
winner at tuba competitions, including Jeju; South Korea, Markneukirchen;
Germany, Tours; France, Iowa City; United States.
He qualified to the final of the TV show
“Virtuosos” in 2017 and was awarded Batthyány medal of the town of
Zalaszentgrót as well as the junior grade award of the Hungarian state called
Prima Primissima.
In 2018 he was recipient of Annie Fischer scholarship. He
attended masterclasses of the following artists: Roland Szentpáli, Oystein
Baadsvik, Sergio Carolino, Daniel Perantoni.
He is a member of Heavy Brass
Guys Tuba Quartet, the only tuba quartet of Hungary. His first solo album
called “Fifty shades of tuba” was released in 2019. He is the principal tuba player of Hungarian
State Opera House since 2021.
